India Completes Successful Multi-Layer Missile Defense Tests
India's Defense Ministry said the Defense Research and Development Organisation had successfully "demonstrated multiple crucial technologies bolstering the nation's defense capabilities against different types of enemy threats" across the trials conducted on June 10 and 11.
"Three consecutive flight-tests were conducted on June 10,11 to demonstrate multi-layered defense against long range ballistic missiles and anti-ship capability at medium range," the ministry said.
The trials carried landmark significance for India's standing among global military powers. "Tests have put the country in the elite group of nations having BMD capability to engage up to intercontinental ballistic missiles," the ministry's statement noted.
In a further demonstration of expanding naval firepower, the Defense Ministry confirmed that the maiden flight-test of a Naval anti-ship missile at medium range was also carried out successfully during the same testing window.
The milestone consolidates India's position among a select group of nations possessing ballistic missile capabilities across short-, medium-, and long-range categories, while simultaneously advancing its sea-based deterrent — a combination that significantly broadens the country's ability to counter a wide spectrum of aerial and maritime threats.
