US Finalizes Military Aid Package for Ukraine—Rubio

(MENAFN) U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Wednesday that Washington is in the final stages of preparing a $400 million military assistance package for Ukraine, with an official announcement expected soon, according to reports.

Speaking to a Senate committee, Rubio said the package is currently moving through the interagency approval process and that updates are expected shortly.

“That's going through the interagency process right now,” Rubio told lawmakers, adding that he expects “news on that pretty soon.”

The funding falls under the 2026 Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative, which allows the Pentagon to purchase weapons and ammunition directly from U.S. defense contractors.

Although Congress approved the broader aid framework in December, its release has been delayed amid administrative processing.

Rubio also reiterated that U.S. support for Ukraine remains steady despite competing global pressures, including ongoing tensions involving Iran.

Members of Congress and media reports have raised concerns that U.S. weapons stockpiles could be under strain due to recent conflicts.

The broader National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2026 includes $400 million allocated for Ukraine in 2026, along with an additional $400 million planned for 2027 under the same assistance program.
