US Carries Out “Self-Defense” Strikes on Iranian Drone Command Facilities

(MENAFN) The United States carried out what it described as “self-defense strikes” over the weekend targeting Iranian radar systems and drone command-and-control sites located in Goruk, Iran, as well as on Qeshm Island, according to the US Central Command (CENTCOM).

According to reports, CENTCOM said in a statement that the “measured and deliberate strikes” were conducted on Saturday and Sunday in response to what it called hostile Iranian actions, including the downing of a US MQ-1 drone operating over international waters.

The statement added that US fighter aircraft responded rapidly after the incident, striking and destroying Iranian air defense systems, a ground control station, and two one-way attack drones that were assessed as posing “clear threats” to vessels operating in regional waters.

Officials confirmed that no US personnel were injured during the operations.

CENTCOM further stated that the United States remains committed to defending its forces and interests in the region, describing the strikes as a response to what it called “unwarranted Iranian aggression” amid an ongoing ceasefire environment.
