Pentagon Blacklists Alibaba, Baidu, BYD Over Military Links Claims

(MENAFN) The US Defense Department has broadened its list of Chinese firms that it claims have connections to China’s military sector, adding several prominent companies including Alibaba, Baidu and BYD in a move that may heighten tensions between Washington and Beijing.

According to reports, the updated designations were published Monday through a Federal Register notice as part of the Pentagon’s annual review of entities believed to support the Chinese military.

Known as the 1260H list, the designation identifies companies that US authorities allege contribute to the modernization of the People’s Liberation Army or play a role in China’s military-civil fusion strategy.

The latest revision means that three of China’s most influential artificial intelligence companies — Alibaba, Baidu and Tencent — have now been included on the list. Tencent had previously been added in 2025.

According to reports, the inclusion of BYD, the country’s largest electric vehicle manufacturer, broadens the Pentagon’s focus beyond defense-related sectors to encompass one of China’s leading automotive and clean-energy companies.

The updated list also reinstates two major Chinese memory-chip producers, ChangXin Memory Technologies and Yangtze Memory Technologies, both of which had appeared in earlier US government designations.

According to reports, those companies were included in a version of the list briefly published in February before it was withdrawn, and they have now been restored in the latest update.
